Excerpt:
The North-western Sanitary Commission have decided to hold a Fair in the city of Chicago, to commence on the 30th day of May, 1865. It is designed to make this effort one which shall be worthy of the section of country which it represents, and of the noble cause for which it is inaugurated. To secure entire success it is desired to enlist the active sympathy and co-operation of every class and calling.
The undersigned have been appointed a Committee to solicit aid from Colleges, Seminaries and Private Schools of the Northwest. The lofty and self-sacrificing patriotism which these Institutions have hitherto displayed, is a sufficient pledge that they will not now be deaf to the calls for succor which come to them from every battle field, camp and hospital in our land.
